poison

when you spoke to me that night in the moonlight,
your words lay bare in front of me …
I took them in my hands, I placed them on my heart
and I waited for the poison to erode the plastic cover
that I found myself keeping all your words inside.
But.
that night the poison didn’t come
and your words were kept safe ...
and I sat in the darkness with a new
profound
sense of grace.
in the midst of my struggle, in the center of your pain
a chance encounter happened
and called us each out by name.
Mine was an illusion, but yours was my truth:
never ending opposition of innocence and lust.
